IRS SCAM
Several people have contacted the police saying telephone callers claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The caller told them they were due $2,500 and wanted a bank account number so it could be deposited directly.
The caller was a male with an accent.
Telephone scam artists often request bank account numbers, Social Security numbers or other personal information.
If the IRS has money to send to taxpayers, it usually notifies them by mail first.
