Welcome to the Independence, Kansas Police Department web site. Independence is located in the southeast corner of Kansas and has a population of about 10,100. The city has a very vibrant downtown shopping area with many of the original buildings still in use. We have a strong industrial base and consider ourselves to be, in part, a rural community with many farming sites in the area surrounding the city.

The city of Independence has had a "Hometown Atmosphere" for many years and people who visit our community comment on the way they are treated by our citizens. The community is also very progressive and has a fine park and zoo that covers many acres. We are proud of our community and we are dedicated to providing the services and support that is required to make Independence "A Progressive Community in the Heart of America."
